Swim Your Heart Out
In celebration of National of American Hearth Month this January I wanted to share with a few of the amazing benefits that swimming has on your heart health. We all know that exercise is good for your heart, but some exercises have higher health benefits than others.
Swimming is one of the best exercises for your heart health because while you’re swimming it works your heart and lungs together. This teaches your body to use oxygen in a more efficient way, and this causes a decline in your resting heart rate and breathing rate. Both are these are very good for your heart health. A lower resting heart rate means your heart doesn’t have to work as hard to do its job! A study done by Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas found that swimmers had lower blood pressure, cholesterol, maximum energy output, and other heart health factors than any other exercise with running, and walking coming in close behind.
Not only does swimming have wonderful heart health benefits, but it also has other benefits such as low impact on the body. Swimming is a perfect exercise for people who have arthritis, since it doesn’t cause any harsh impact on the joints like running. Another great benefit of swimming is that it’s a very effective sport for weight-loss. Swimming works out almost every muscle in the body, and has one of the highest calorie burn per minute of any sport. Another great thing about swimming is that it’s great for the whole family, it is sport that works for any age! If you’re looking to incorporate more activity into your families’ lives, then swimming is a great option for you. These are only a few of the amazing benefits of swimming, it has many many more.
So this month ditch the sneakers, and take a dive in the pool for your heart and your health!
